Newsletter Sneak Peek: Peanut Butter Cookies

Hello peoples! I posted this on the facebook page but the way facebook works now I have no idea if anyone sees my posts or not. It's a bit of a sneak peek of what is going into the newsletter next month.

Peanut butter cookies!

And yes that is a Hazel Atlas hula girl juice glass. Kitschtastic.

Bit of life story stuff now.
Chapter One
I was born and raised in Canada before becoming what is termed an economic migrant in my early twenties. I emigrated to Great Britain because someone there offered me a job that I wouldn't have had much hope of getting at home at the time.

Long story short I struggled to find good peanut butter. It doesn't occupy the staple place in the English diet that it does in the Canadian. There's like the STORE BRAND and then the arty farty rocking horse shit priced organic stuff. WTF. Organic peanut butter. I really do despair.

Chapter Two
When I was about 8 the local agricultural fair ran a competition sponsored by Robin Hood flour (ah... good old Robin Hood flour). It was for the best decorated giant chocolate chip cookie. My mom won first place, I won second place, and my brother won third place. True story.

My prize was an apron and a Robin Hood flour cookbook called Bake a Little Love. I still have this cookbook and have adapted the recipe for peanut butter cookies that is in it. Gawd, it seems almost... RETRO now. Cringe or what?

Sometimes I get a little homesick and crave for the good old fashioned Canadian comfort of peanut butter cookies and a glass of milk. But I am mindful of my diet these days. I like a treat but am not crazy about a lot of sugar or fat. I think the update I have made to this retro recipe renders it no less tasty but certainly more artery friendly.
